Rare - 1860 - Utagawa - Shunga - Trick Picture - Shikake-e - from behind
Authentic latter Edo period Japanese shunga erotic art woodblock print trick/toy picture (shikake-e) c.1860 by a member of the Utagawa School. The folded up scene (origata) measures 6.8 cm x 6.8 cm when fully opened & displaying the nude female, while the male figurine measures 8 cm high from top of head to his knees being fully extended. Taller if you were to extend his arms over his head. Very good colors and impressions. Very good condition with just some light wear and fold lines, due to it being folded up into its case form, which is the old-fashioned & meticulous style of Japanese folding referred to as origata. No backing. The male even has a front and back side. Please refer to photos. There is a slit cut into the female's vagina, so the male figure can insert his manhood.
Rare Japanese shunga shikake-e with nice koto and Kintaro's famed battle axe on the reverse side! Moreover, the male figurine is quite well done. His limbs can be moved around easily for various amusing positions & poses.
