Authentic antique Japanese urushi-nuri (special lacquerware) ornamental wooden box with a shi-shi (mythical lion/dog) design.  Urushi-nuri is/was considered an elite type of lacquer, a special - and quite expensive lacquer - one can only procure from Ishikawa prefecture.  In this case, it has been applied all over the shi-shi-designed wooden box.  Therefore, it should last a lifetime, if not longer, as urushi-nuri items are reputed to be as such.
 
Very good condition with only some slight wear due to its age.  Please see and judge from photos provided.

A wonderful antique piece of Japanese lacquerware depciting the formidable-looking mythical lion/dog.  Originally crafted to store Japanese tea untensils and/or Japanese snacks, it would now clearly make for a stunning decorative storage box of any kind!
