1900 - Tomioka Eisen - Shunga Woodblock Print - Gay - Homoerotic
Authentic & original Meiji period c.1900, Japanese shunga homoerotic art woodblock print picture by Tomioka Eisen (1864-1905). Measures approximately 16.5 cm x 22.5 cm. Fantastic colors and impressions! Great use of some deluxe printing techniques. There is the use of urushi-e (black lacquer) to exemplify the hairlines, thus adding lustre to their beautiful and distinctive sheen. Also bokashi shading (tonal gradation) on the red blanket covering them. Condition is decent with some wear, soiling, small stains here and there. No backing. Please see and judge from photos.
An older man has his way with a younger one as they shield themselves under a large, red blanket. Truly an exemplary piece of shunga artwork by one of the Meiji Period greats - Tomioka Eisen!
