1900 - Kiyonaga Inspired Shunga - Sode no maki X 8 Lot
SKU: puk9508
A latter Meiji Period (c.1900) lot of 8 shunga woodblock print pictures inspired by Torii Kiyonaga’s celebrated shunga series, Sode no maki (The Sleeve Scroll, 1785). The unusually long, narrow compositions closely recall Kiyonaga’s famous original series, while the simplified drawings and bold Meiji-era colors give the scenes a distinctly later character. Artist is anonymous.
Each shunga picture measures 16.5 cm x 6 cm. Very good colors and impressions. Very good condition with mild wear. No backing. Please refer to photos.
