Authentic Edo period original, c.1835, Japanese woodblock print by Kunisada Utagawa (1786-1865). From the shunga woodblock print series, Sue shiragame otogusa. Woodblock print picture measures 22.9 cm x 27 cm. Excellent colors and impressions! Condition is very good with minimal wear. Very thin album backing. Please see and judge from photos.
An interesting woodblock print picture from this shunga series featuring a group of participants at Izumo Taisha Shrine in Shimane prefecture, which is said to be the oldest shrine in Japan. It's a popular shrine to pray for marriage and in this scene names are being dropped into a box so as to arrange marriages between the people present.
