Authentic Edo-period original Japanese samurai woodblock print picture by Utagawa Kunisada (1786–1865), c.1827.  From his shunga series, Ehon Koi no Kaguya.
 
The woodblock print picture measures 26.7 × 20.8 cm.  Very good colors and impressions.  Condition is decent+/good with some age-related wear and soiling and a small amount of wormage.  Album backing.  Please see and judge condition from the photos.
 
A Samurai Standoff — The Nirami Glare 
An unusual non-erotic design from Kunisada’s c.1827 shunga series, depicting a tense samurai confrontation on a stone stairway.  Both men are armed with paired swords, but it is the warrior at right who steals the scene with his extraordinary nirami (睨み) glare — an exaggerated, fiercely intimidating stare traditionally intended to project power and menace.  His opponent crouches opposite, hand poised at his swords, creating a wonderful moment of suspended confrontation.  A dramatic and highly unusual change of pace within an otherwise erotic shunga-focused work.
